The Frederick E. Kredel Papers, 1925-1980, document Dr. Kredel's professional accomplishments. The collection contains correspondence, drafts of Dr. Kredel's published works, awards and certificates he received, speeches and addresses given by Dr. Kredel, and his scrapbook of his research trip with Dr. Samuel H. Williams to Kartabo, British Guiana. Also included in the collection are a bibliography of Dr. Kredel's published works, a brief biography, and a eulogy. Printed materials from the collection have been cataloged individually.

Frederick Evert Kredel (1903-1961) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1929. While a student, Dr. Kredel worked in the Harvard laboratory of the renowned surgeon Dr. Harvey Cushing. Dr. Kredel was the first full-time professor of surgery at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina, where he taught from 1937-1961. Harvey Williams Cushing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 8, 1869. He graduated from Yale College in 1891 and in 1895 received his M.D. and A.M. degrees from the Harvard Medical School. He served on the staff of the Johns Hopkins University Hospital from 1901 to 1912, where he devoted himself to neurological surgery.
